Again some suspected gunmen have killed two policemen and set the Ubakala Divisional Police Station in Abia’s Umuahia South Local Government Area on fire in the early hours of Monday, May 17, 2021.

SP Godfrey Ogbonna, the spokesman for the Abia Police Command, confirmed the incident to the Newsmen in Umuahia.

According to Ogbonna, the hoodlums attacked the station with explosives around 12.10 a.m.

He also said the operatives who had been assigned to reinforce security at the station attempted to repel the assailants.

“We lost two of our men in the process,” he said, noting that the number of attackers had yet to be determined.

According to a resident who spoke on the condition of anonymity, the midnight attack caused widespread panic among the community’s residents.
